Greywacke – “Outcrop”

Greywacke is the original stone that inspired Ōtaki stone. The jagged, raw pieces i’m looking for must not have been smoothed by the river’s action. To be hard enough to cut and carve I seek dark bedrock which I find at a deep slip in the mid Ōtaki. This is a small piece (207x70x60mm), suitable in small spaces like bathrooms or kitchens etc.

Greywacke – island

Greywacke is the original stone that inspired Ōtaki stone. I select suitable pieces from a slip in the mid Ōtaki river where I can find dark, hard greywacke suitable for carving and that haven’t been rounded by tumbling down the river. This is a small piece (207x70x60mm), suitable in small spaces like bathrooms or kitchens etc.
